The Club 1541 Boys' Hockey team assembled an 'Avengers' like squad to take home the Freeman Cup after a big win over the King's 1st XI at Archdeacon Meadow.
As Head of Boys' Hockey, Lee Robson, said after the match, "If I could have hand picked a side of our best players over the last 10 years, this is what the team would look like, it is like the Hockey Avengers have returned". The extremely strong team had to battle hard though against a young King's side and the match was a lot closer than the 8-0 scoreline suggested.
The first half was supremely competive with the 'home' side having the best of the chances but they were unable to capitalise. The visitors were on the back foot for large stretches but went into the break 1-0 up.
The competitive action continued long into the second half with King's again having lots of chances but couldn't hit the back of the net, whilst at the other end, Club 1541 seemed to score everytime they got into the D. King's never gave up though and even with goals going in against them, they kept playing some great Hockey up until the final whistle.
In the end, the quality of the "Avengers" shone through. Thank you to all who came back to play in the match and for making it such an enjoyable evening and congratulations to the team and captain Jamie Baker who lifted the Freeman Cup, presented by Headmaster David Morton.
