Hamish Harding, 1964 - 2023

The King’s School community was deeply saddened to learn that former pupil Hamish Harding had been lost during the Titan submersible incident beneath the Atlantic Ocean.

Hamish was a pupil at King’s from 1975 to 1982.

Hamish excelled in the classroom, winning the Form prize in his first year at King's and also achieving excellent O Level and A Level results. He left King’s for Cambridge University to study Natural Sciences.

Appointed as a prefect during his final year at school, Hamish was also a keen cricketer. He thrived as a leading member of the Air Training Corps (ATC), earning several promotions and also winning the coveted 'Master Cadet' competition in 1980.

Despite living abroad, Hamish kept in close contact with his friends from school and returned to King’s to attend a 40-year reunion in November 2022, as pictured below.

The school has proudly followed Hamish’s career over the decades, including celebrating his going into space last year on the Blue Origin spacecraft. His academic dedication, personal ambition and bravery are all qualities which our pupils will reflect on in Chapel next week when we say our goodbye as a school community. Our thoughts are with Hamish’s family, friends and colleagues at this sad time as well as those of the other people onboard.
