In the latest in our series of interviews with Club 1541 members, we sat down with former student Ed Lifely to discuss his career since leaving King's and his new exciting role in the world of commercial property. Ed spent his entire school life at King's and has some great advice for our current pupils...
Hi Ed, thank you very much for taking part! To start off, when were you at King's?
I started at King’s aged three in 1997 and stayed all the way through, with my final year in 2012.
Which House were you in?
Laud House
What are your favourite memories from your time at King's?
So many great memories but some of the best have to be on the cricket pitches at Archdeacon Meadow and climbing mountains in the Lake District and Brecon Beacons on many Outdoor Pursuits trips.
Congratulations on your new job! Tell us about it and what you will be doing.
Thanks! I’m heading up the Commercial Agency team in the Oxford office of Lambert Smith Hampton, one of the UK and Ireland's leading property consultancies. The role involves advising on all things commercial property throughout Oxfordshire, but also takes me nationally across the UK.
What did you do after leaving school and where has your career taken you?
I was fortunate enough to do a gap year with the link school Newington College in Australia. Then I did an undergraduate degree at Reading University in Real Estate and Development. From there I got a job at Carter Jonas where I stayed for 6 years, qualifying as a chartered surveyor until starting this year as a Director with Lambert Smith Hampton.
What does the future hold?
From a work perspective I’m looking to continue to grow the LSH Oxford business.
From a personal perspective my fiancée and I are in the process of renovating a house, with a home made pizza oven!
And finally, if you could give one piece of advice to the current crop of sixth formers about to join the real world, what would it be?
Never stop asking questions (I’ve asked my fair share and still going!) and the default answer should always be YES to new opportunities and experiences!
Thank you Ed, and good luck!
