We are delighted to be able to introduce you to our new digital archive and thanks to a generous donation from a former King's student, we have already been able to digitalise school magazines from six different decades and share them with you.
The Alumnus, who wishes to remain anonymous, wanted to reconnect with his school days but didn't have the physical copies of the end of year publications. Working together with SDS Archives, they have digitalised them for us all to enjoy, thank you!
King's Headmaster David Morton commented, “For a school which was recently shown to be amongst the dozen oldest schools in the country, we have a truly remarkable history to celebrate and explore. I very much hope that members of Club 1541 will enjoy perusing the archives (either online, or in school), and that we can swiftly build this online resource for all to share and enjoy for many years to come.”
Click here to visit the bespoke King's Gloucester Archives website.
Once you are on the site, click on 'browse' and you will be presented with the opportunity to read through publications from different decades and with a digital index, you are even able to search for your name or favourite topic. There is also a link to access the archives when you are on the the Club 1541 Hub, as you are now. If you look at the menu across the top of this story, you will see 'Archives' on the right side, click there to view the archives.
As you will see, there are still plenty of gaps in our archive and we are asking that any other Club 1541 members who are interested in supporting the digitalisation of more magazines, contact George Smith via g.smith@thekingsschool.co.uk
The process costs £1 per page with magazines varying from 60 to 130 pages. SDS say that often friendship groups band together and chip in to digitalise the magazine from their last year at school, or when they were in a play together, or won a trophy on the sports field etc. If this is of interest, please get in touch.
